This is not a new TNH record.

This is the first volume of a set of 3 albums that will present songs that were never released or even recorded so far, covers, live versions, etc...

The songs have been recorded on various equipments (4-tracks cassette,MD & computer) between 1997 and 2021.

The sound fidelity may thus vary from song to song.
Hope you'll like it anyway.

1. West coast Travels
Written in 2014, along with the family tree EP songs, supposed to be entitled michael weaver to fit the idea that was behind that EP : to present a new character in each song.
It was dropped because it did not seem to fit the other lyrics and did not include the name of the character.
Finally recorded in december 2020.
Probably the most teenage fanclubesque song in the TNH catalogue.

2. Spooky
The music was recorded on a 4-tracks (cassette or MD, not sure) somewhere between 2000 and 2010.
The vocals were added in january 2021.
This song is centered on an overdriven bass line and a casio synth that was plugged into a pedalboard with a expression pedal.

3. Always on my mind ( Acoustic demo )
This is the demo that was presented the viewmaster bandmates to work on a full distortion version for the Old days diaries EP.
Recorded in the bathroom somewhere around 2011.

4.Instrumental number 2
Second instrumental song released by TNH, the first one being "the day" on TNH's first album "Eleven ways to disorder" (which amusingly was a 12 songs album).
The song's main theme was a casio keyboard plugged into a boss loops pedal.That loop was sometimes used between songs or before shows for paperweight shows.
The loop was recorded in 2007.
Additional guitars and keyboards were added in January 2021.

5. Bang Bang ( Nancy Sinatra cover )
Acoustic cover of this old classic.
Recorded at home in 2009.

6. Homeland
Oldest song on this album (probably written between 1997 and 2000).
I'm not sure why It never got recorded until now.
It's now done.
This version turned out to be more spacey and peaceful that I imagined it at first but I kinda like it that way.
Also, the order of the different parts of the song was a bit different in the first version.
recorded at home in december 2020.

7. Instrumental number 3
3rd instrumental for TNH.
There is another version of this song called 'le chaton magique' with strange lyrics and a creepy laughter at the end.
The keyboard was recorded in January 2020 but the rest of the song was recorded a long long time ago.

8. Solar sister (The posies cover)
Refused song for a tribute to the posies project, the posies being a huge influence.
Clearly not perfect and missing a part of the song but I still kinda like this version though and its weird sounding solo..

9. Don't you leave on Xmas eve
Taken from the compilation " A Paperheart Christmas ", released on paperheartmusic in 2014.
This is an original song that was meant to sound like an old american classic xmas song.
The vocal melody came surprisingly easily but the instrumental part was way more difficult.
Nothing seemed to fit the song . It ended up in this stripped down version with very few instruments that I think serves the purpose of the song and makes it more xmasy.

10. Between the bars (Elliott Smith cover)
Taken from "ho, well okay", the Elliott Smith tribute released on paperheartmusc in 2015.
The violin and accordeon are played by Gerald Olivier.
Needless to say Elliott smith is also a huge TNH influence.
